The Voyage
What is a year but an unwieldy barge
that drifts on a river of dreams?
What is desire but a broken oar
that we use to stem the stream?
What are words but a patchwork sail
that occasionally catches a breeze?
What is hope but a tattered chart
of strange, exotic seas?
But the river is wide, and I’ll sail my barge
I’ll ply my oar, and search my charts,
I’ll raise my sail at each passing wind
and if I see you flounder, friend,
I’ll heave to and lend a hand
and together we’ll set sail and
disappear into the setting sun,
Until another year is done.

What a year it has been for you. Thank-you for a year of poems and glimpses into your creative process. Best to you in 2013, Linda, as you wrestle your select poems into a book. In admiration and awe, Cynthia
Thanks for joining me on the voyage, Cynthia. Hopefully the editing process will yield some interesting and possibly entertaining posts in the future.
Merry Christmas.
Best wishes,
mei
A very appropriate poem to complete you epic project, which has indeed been a voyage of discovery for you. Congratulations on completing this Herculean assignment and maintaining such an incredible overall standard. I don’t envy yoy the task of selecting your final poems for the book, but if ever you need any independent feedback on anything, I’ll be happy to help if I can. As someone who has fruitlessly been trying to get their work published for years, I’m afraid I can’t help on practicalities such as publishers etc 😦
A very happy Christmas to you. I hope you’re able to finally ‘put the pen down’ for a few days and enjoy the festivities! 🙂
Thanks Tony, I may yet take you up on a little help with final proofing if the offer still stands. I’m not sure when I’ll get it to that stage though. Thanks for all your input and encouragement – it helped a lot!
