Guess What

I
A wild guess is hope
imbuing reality
with cherished outcomes.

II
Predicting the past,
an educated guess is
just calculations.

III
But every guess hides
elements of hope behind
facades of logic.

  1. Ok Linda, I’m probably being dim (nothing unusual for me!) but is there a subtle interpretation that I’m missing in the seemingly impossible phrase ‘Predicting the past’? (Although I do realise that ‘Predicting the future’ would break the structure of the haiku)

Right! I’ve just googled ‘Predicting the past’ and I see that it is perfectly legitimate and means using information gained from the present to reconstruct conditions in the past, so your use of the phrase is spot on. My apologies, I am indeed dim! I was going to delete my post altogether to save face(!) but I thought I’d let you see that I do read your work with more than just fleeting interest (and I always enjoy it) ๐Ÿ™‚
