This I Understand
The world rushes by
every crisis jockeying
for my attention.
The clock claps its hands
to get my attention and
scoot me out the door.
Everyone has plans
that require my presence
except for the moose.
Outside my window
a moose browses willow buds.
This I understand.

What an elegant mouse grazing outside your window, and this I can understand. Nice photograph and poem.
Thank you Mary – not long after I had a black bear tapping at that window – a little more hair-raising than the moose. 🙂
Looks like you have a lot of great animals that are curious about your window up there in Canada. PS: I just noticed I spelled moose incorrectly, and obviously that’s not a mouse outside in the snow.
I was listening to what you meant, not what you wrote… A mouse that size would be pretty scary!
Or is it a European Elk?
Well, since we’re in northern BC, it would definitely be a moose, our elk look a lot different from our moose, lol.
Wow! That’s an impressive Moose! Bit bigger than mine?!
Actually, she was just an adolescent, probably about 400 pounds. They get around 800 pounds (for a cow) or 1000 to 1200 pounds for a male around here. I think she just looked bigger in the picture.
Great! looking at that photo, I can see why you were inspired to pick the pen up! We once saw a Bambi-like deer in out garden eating an apple, which wasn’t quite as magical as your moose, but what it lacked in grandeur it sort of made up for in cuteness 🙂
